I don't want to hear that society will not
accept us because we have felony convictions. I don't want to hear I can’t get
a job because of my criminal record or because I used to do crime and did time years ago (or days ago). That time is over, let it go.
That self defeating behavior is what keeps people coming back. It's not the jail food or dental program, I assure you.
There are many ways to create opportunities and build a great future. A prisoner survives in jail by understanding if he needs something built, he builds it.
If you need a tool to help build your future, make the tool.
Some people use their felony convictions as an excuse or crutch to be lazy, or complacent, or stuck in a depression. Many end up living off the government. There is no need for self pity when there are so many areas to grow towards and be self-sufficient. Your contribution to your own life and the lives of those you love will be exactly what you make it. You choose what you accomplish by your actions and inactions. Everyday you create your story and it can be one to be proud of if you choose it so.

Harboring feelings of low self-worth will keep you jobless and spread negativity to others. Further, for the people that do not know what it will be like moving forward with a felony conviction, your negativity can discourage them into believing their felony conviction will hold them back in life.
This is so untrue.
We have evolved and advanced in medicine, technology, information and personal growth. There are so many
opportunities for motivated, ambitious, positive people – whether or not they
have a criminal record. But you’ve got to learn a skill, then get out there and
contribute to the greater good.
Nobody is asking us to build a new wheel nor invent a cure for cancer; all you have to do is show up with tools in the morning ready to work. For yourselves, your families and communities.

As a consultant, I am tired of hearing the excuse that a prior felony conviction will prevent future opportunities. It's a paralyzing and untrue irrational belief. If you are serious about your freedom, your health, your own positive growth and development, then you will find a way to achieve what you are searching for, and you’ll build your self-esteem along the way.
If you are searching for riches and success you will surely find it. But if you are searching for criminal enterprise, you will surely find that as well.
Consider that it’s not your felony conviction that holds you
back. It is your complacency, your laziness, your willingness to allow these
excuses into your life. You can say it’s fear, your depression, your obesity,
or whatever – I say whatever it is that holds you back is within you and
only you can change it.
So please, stop making excuses about your failures and saying
that its due to your prior felony convictions, it's not. I completed
three state bids, 14 felony convictions, and over 10 years in prison. I came
home and built the tools I needed, built a small business that keeps me
motivated and self sufficient, and created a new life for myself in a few short
years.
I believe you can too.
